Gavin McKenzie, in partnership with his parents, own and run 22,040ha in the Blackwater area with a further 22,000ha leased. The partnership runs 2,000 breeders which are mostly reds with a small herd of blacks. Bullocks are fattened for the Jap market made up of homebred and bought-in steers and sold at 2 1/2 years of age. Cull heifers and culled cows are fattened and sold straight to the works.

Angus bulls were bought in the early nineties and then in 1998 we purchased our first Brangus bulls. Cows are mated from November through to March. All cows are preg. tested at weaning. Empty cows and cows that do not bring calf to the yard are culled. Breeding heifers are joined at 12 months of age.
