AMAROO BRANGUS

Gordon Kime (07) 4950 7139
Colin Kime (07) 4950 7159

The Kime family is synonymous with the production of quality Brangus cattle since 1979. Amaroo is a 12,000ha property outside Nebo where the Kime family runs an operation of 800 Brangus breeders and their progeny. Three single sire herds operate within the herd that produces 45 to 50 bulls per year. A select group of these bulls are used lightly within the herd before they are offered for sale. Bulls are marketed at the Central Brangus Classic and privately.

The Amaroo cattle and their owners have earned an enormous reputation through an impressive record of victories in carcase, prime cattle championships and bull sales throughout central and northern Queensland. This is only achieved through constant high selection criteria and evaluation of all facets of their cattle enterprise. In 2007 at the inaugural Nebo Prime Show and Sale the Kime family took home the champion pen grass fed females with their four tooth entries and took home a first placing in the six tooth pen of steers. This was the first time in nine years that the prefix had shown cattle, claiming these wins with only two pens exhibited from a field of 550 head.

Outside sire introductions are sourced from many of the nation’s leading Brangus outlets.

BONOX BRANGUS

Bruce & Leanne Woodard (07) 4627 8436

Bonox Brangus Stud is owned by Bruce & Leanne Woodard and family at “Tualka South”, Taroom Queensland. It was started with a herd of Black Brangus cattle based on “Tarcoola” bloodlines. Over the years we have introduced several different bloodlines to improve and breed a quality Black Polled Brangus herd.

One successful sire we used was Bonox Jumbo who has bred us many quality females and many stud sires. Some of his stock has been sold both in the paddock and for high prices at the Brangus Bull Sales. Greendale Xciting was another bloodline we purchased who proved to be a successful sire. In 2008 we have used four of his selected sons who are shaping up as big beefy bulls.

At present Bonox Stud runs 270 females which are drafted into seven single sire herds, so that we can monitor the performance and quality of both the bull and his progeny. Bonox Stud also places big importance on fertility and the cows ability to rare a fat calf. We have found that Brangus females, compared to other breeds have been the most fertile and can survive and handle harsh, dry conditions better.

COOLABAH BRANGUS

Paul & Denise Studt (07) 4986 4153

Coolabah Stud was established in 1986. It is owned and operated by Paul and Denise Studt on their property “Coolabah Park” near Capella in central Queensland.

The Coolabah stud was established using Couti-Outi, Tarcoola, Duckworth and Greendale bloodlines. Coolabah runs 100 registered stud cattle and a commercial herd, and prides itself on producing stud and commercial cattle with good temperament, doing ability, structural correctness, fertility and weight for age. Both the stud and commercial herds are performance recorded and has genetic history for 3 generations.

The stud held the Australian record for the top priced Brangus Bull sold at auction for a number of years with “Coolabah Nero” at $22,000 and has sold the top priced bull a the ABCA Bull Sale four times.

Our aim as seedstock producers is to produce bulls that will sire animals for our clients that will be heavy, easy care and fit into any market.

All bulls are paddock reared and then prepared for sale with a grain preparation of 10 weeks. We will be presenting 4 bulls for the Central Brangus Classic Bull Sale.

We sell bulls through stud sales and in the paddock and registered heifers. Visitors are always welcome at Coolabah to inspect any of our cattle or come and see us at Agrow in July.

COUTI-OUTI BRANGUS

Lawson & Linda Geddes (07) 4937 3188

The “Burri-Buri” Brangus Stud, No 19, was founded in 1962. Up until this time the “Couti-Outi” Angus Stud and commercial cattle operation, was very successfully run by the late Mr. W.J. (Bill) Geddes. “Couti-Outi” Angus Stud cattle competed very successfully at Central Queensland Shows, and also in Brisbane, as did the prime and carcase cattle for many years during the early 1950’s and 60’s. In 1962, the coveted R.J. BUCHANAN MEMORIAL, for the most successful Angus fat cattle exhibitor in the Commonwealth, was won by the late Mr. Geddes. It was this herd of Angus Breeders that lay the foundation for the “Couti-Outi” Brangus of today.

Three quarter bred Brahman bulls were purchased from “The Orient” Ingham, in 1962, to begin a very successful cross breeding program. The Brangus cattle now, were being bred with sleek coats, the tougher doing ability of the Brahman, whilst keeping the good conformation and carcase qualities of the Angus, and were being turned off at heavier weights. “Burri-Buri” Brangus returned to the show ring in 1965, with many successes in stud and fat cattle classes, and has continued showing to the present day. The stud prefix was changed from “Burri-Buri” back to “Couti-Outi” in the early 1970’s.

“Couti-Outi”, run by Lawson & Linda Geddes and family, is situated on the coast about 150kms north of Rockhampton. Breeders are run on coastal forest country in conjunction with marine plain country. Bullocks are all grass fattened on marine plains and turned off at 2 1\2 years, to meet EU markets and Jap Ox. Bulls are retained from the top 3% of the male calves, and are chosen on length, fleshing, and the conformation attributes of them and their mothers, which make up the essential characteristics of breeding a good bull. Fresh blood is constantly being used, by sourcing Angus, Brahman, and Brangus Bulls, and drafting females to suit these sires. One of the wonderful attributes of Brangus is that you can breed them to suit any country.

GLENAVON BRANGUS

NEEDMOR BRANGUS

Cliff Mylrea (07) 4987 3065

Needmor Brangus has been established by carefully selecting black cows with Brangus traits and mating them to Brangus Sires that compliment them. The Brangus sires used have been from the Glenavon prefix, which were by Couti-Outi and Amaroo sires. The reason to use these bloodlines was because the principles at the helm of these studs are held in high regard, not only in Brangus circles but throughout the entire beef industry. These studs not only produce quality stud stock, but also produce quality commercial cattle (which is Needmor’s main focus). These quotes have been backed up by their sale results, Show success and Hoof & Hook success.

Needmor Brangus main focus is to produce bulls for commercial cattlemen. Needmor Brangus methods are not rocket science or complicated at all, we have a very practical theory to abide by when selecting breeder cows, replacement heifers and sale bulls, which include.

  1. Temperament.
  2. Fertility.
  3. Weight For Age.
  4. Confirmation.
  5. Good Coat Type.
  6. Easy Doing, Low Maintenance Cattle.

PARKES BRANGUS

Brent & Marie Woodard (07) 4935 0124

Brent & Maree Woodard and family run a small herd of commercial Brangus cows on forest country at “Parkes Holding” Duaringa. Because of the harder country we aim to breed good, practical, easy doing cattle that maintain themselves under the tougher conditions on the lighter country.

We started to breed Brangus in 1993 with Brangus and Angus bulls over high grade grey Brahman cows. Being impressed with the results we continued to purchase Brangus bulls which has enabled us to produce a handful of bulls every year to help support the Central Brangus Classic Sale.

SCHNEIDER BRANGUS

Jeff Schneider (07) 4934 3167
Scott Schneider (07) 4934 3136

Jeff and Scott Schneider and family are based at Yaamba, 30km north of Rockhampton. They also have the Nine Mile at Morinish; both places are on the Fitzroy. These properties run a herd of 500 quality Brangus commercial cattle and also produce grain and hay.

Brangus bulls were first introduced to our cattle in the early 1990’s. Originally, we had a herd of Brahman cross cows. We then met Lawson and Linda Geddes of Couti-Outi. With an injection of Couti-Outi bulls, our grey herd is now black. We have also introduced bulls from Lawson Woodard and The Gifford Family.

We currently turn our steers off as weaners to Lawson and Linda Geddes and have been doing so for a number of years. This allows us to keep room for replacement heifers to continue to better our herd. Our aim is to produce a line of herd bulls for sale annually. We pride ourselves on good quality quiet cattle.

SCRUBBEE BRANGUS

Wayne & Marcia Maguire (07) 4987 3015

Wayne & Marcia Maguire and family own and run Scrubbee Brangus north of Blackwater on the Mackenzie River. Wayne and family have been breeding Brangus for 25 years at “Scrubbee”. With the basis of the herd coming from Bingegang, which was owned by Wayne’s father since 1976.

The family runs 1000 commercial breeders on their two properties “Scrubbee” and “Ashgrove”. They keep the top 20-30 male calves a year as bulls. Selling the majority in the paddock with the best ones being put through the Central Brangus Classic. The remainder are fattened to bullocks and sold as Jap Ox. The females are put to the bulls as weaners after being culled on type and temperament. Any empty females after that are culled and fattened. Wayne has also bought in bulls from major studs including Tarcoola, Amaroo, Belview and Coolabah.

SEREENA BRANGUS

Ian & Cathy Murray (07) 4984 9446

Our small property situated 14klms west of Capella is representative of much of the grazing properties in Central Queensland and we were attracted to the Brangus Breed by their excellent adaptability to this drier area in Queensland.

Sereena Brangus is owned and operated by Ian and Cathy Murray with assistance from Paul and Denise Studt of Coolabah Brangus.

Over the last few years ever mindful of future goals, we purchased registered stud cows and calves from Kelaree Stud, and stud heifers from Bonox and Coolabah Stud and with the use of Coolabah bulls, we have an exciting start of a quality stud Brangus herd with all the classic traits.

We sold the highest priced herd bull at the Classic Brangus Sale in 2007 and we hope to be able to contribute to the industry this year as well. Two of our bulls will be prepared for the Brangus Site at Agro in Emerald 2008, and we hope to take one of these bulls to Beef 2009 in Rockhampton. Also we have paddock bulls for sale.

With the Brangus being sort after and the industry as a whole reasonably stable, we hope to eventually run 50 stud breeders with good genetics and with more average seasons our venture could be personally satisfying and our Sereena bred cattle will be known for quality and wonderful quite temperament.

TALOUMBI BRANGUS

Hardy & Amanda Woodard (07) 4996 5154

The Taloumbi herd was founded in the mid eighties, by buying cows bred by Harold Cook at Bowen, later collecting an assortment of Brahman and Brangus cows and heifers in the Mackenzie River area, including Duckworth and Bingegang. I bought my first Brangus bull, Tarcoola 100 in 1988 for $3,000 off my father, previously running my cows with his herd. Tarcoola 100 was half Couti-Outi and half our original breed from Lloyd Pownall, where Dad bought his first Brangus bull about 1967. These clean coated, early maturing, low maintenance cattle still live on in our herd today.

Two Angus sires were introduced about 1993, Nairn Park Larry L1 and Bunya Creek Magnum. These two bulls produced sires to breed back over our own cows. This proved a valuable move to maintain the fertility and maternal values of our original cattle. These traits were hard to obtain from many of the Brangus available at the time, which almost caused us to change to another breed. It was about this time that quite a few other Brangus breeders began to sieve the Angus and Brahman breeds for new genetics. This resulted in a resurrection of the breed when out-crossed to some of our original cows.

While colour was still a problem with some cows, we went on to invest in Tarcoola 903 and later Bimbora Axel, whose calves are due in 2008. We should have a virtually colour free herd from now on with the added performance from new genetics.

Our most recent purchases in 2008 are two Angus bulls from Banquet Angus stud in Victoria. These bulls will be used selectively over Brangus and commercial Brahman cows as we are relocating to a larger scale operation 70km north-west of Eidsvold.

At the first Central Brangus Classic Sale in 2007 we offered 4 bulls to average $7000. In 2008 we will offer approximately 10 bulls with the majority being by 903.

We have carefully considered other breeds of cattle from time to time and made many comparisons with the objective of breeding the complete animal for the tropics. We are now dedicated to Brangus more than ever.

TANNYFOIL BRANGUS

YARAANDOO BRANGUS

John Collins (07) 4933 1407

Yaraandoo Brangus Stud was established in 1989. The Stud takes its name from the aboriginal word yaraandoo, meaning under the Southern Cross. It is owned and operated by John Collins and is located at Gracemere, in Central Queensland.

Yaraandoo Brangus prides itself on producing cattle with exceptional temperaments, proven “doing’ ability, impressive carcase traits and ultimately, ease of marketability. Cattle that are equally suitable for the commercial or stud producer.

Even though Yaraandoo Brangus began operation in 1989, John’s association with Brangus goes back to the Early 1970’s, through a long-time friendship with renowned Brangus breeders Lawson and Linda Geddes of Couti-Outi. Yaraandoo cattle of today are heavily founded on Couti-Outi bloodlines. The foundation sires of Couti-Outi Douglas and Couti-Outi Denver were used over Bingegang heifers at the Stud’s inception.

Yaraandoo Brangus consists of a herd of 50 registered breeders, together with a smaller selection of commercial females. The registered progeny are generally sold at the Central Brangus Classic. A limited number of bulls and females are offered privately.

During recent years Artificial Insemination has been introduced in a bid to source a broader genetic pool, with positive results. Brahman sires such as FBC Wendell Manso and Brangus sires such as Transformer of Brinks and Sundance of Brinks have all been used with pleasing outcomes.
